Leveling

Leveling
Leveling up in Ingress is pretty straightforward.

For each level you have to achieve a certain amount of action points. As you level up you can use higher level items. The max level of items you can use directly correlates to the level you are.

In order to obtain action points in the game you have to complete certain actions. You can gain action points for doing pretty much anything with a portal except recharging it. The majority of the action points you can gain is by either fully deploying to a portal by placing 8 resonators, linking portals and then by creating control fields.

As you can see in the chart below creating a control field by far and away the best place to gain action points and level up. However, it is also the hardest to do because at low levels portals have to be in close proximity to each other fully charged portals and that can take some time.

RE: Leveling
1. Take advantage of high level portals already controlled by your faction.
2. Don’t waste time claiming every unclaimed portal in your area.
3. ATTACK!

RE: Leveling
Exclamation Apart from the last one (Attacking), which truly is the fastest way to gather AP, these tips are plain wrong. You get AP not for the size of the field but for the number of fields you create. Also, claiming a portal and deploying all 8 resonators gives you 1750 AP which is definitely not bad.

RE: Leveling
It's still a good suggestion to find where your faction controls a lot of portals in order to hack for higher level resources.

RE: Leveling
I have to agree that these are wrong. I went from Lvl 1 to Lvl 4 in 3 days because my work had me drive a route through the middle of nowhere and I claimed over 35 portals.
It took everything I had gained (53 bursters) to kill a single portal in my enemy-controlled, well-fortified area of Houston. Granted, taking down 6 control fields with it helped put me over the 70k mark, but most of my points were from claims.

RE: Leveling
So I have just got an invite, and it's taken me 4 days to get to 1000AP. There are only 3 enemy portals near me. I don't get any AP for hacking my own portals, they are all linked already... now I just find out that I need 10,000AP to get to level 2. It's going to take me months. No thanks. Cool

RE: Leveling
Fix the problems:
1. Ask Ingress for some access codes to hand out to friends because no-one is playing in your area (school, work, wherever)
2. Submit portal suggestions so there are more portals in your area.

The game is in closed beta for a reason.

RE: Leveling
i have divised a way to create a level 8 portal when you are level 6. you will need: 4 lvl 4 resonators, 2 lvl 5 resonators, and 2 lvl 6 resonators. to make this even more fortified add 4 lvl 3 portal shields and create a link

RE: Leveling
I'm the only one in my faction where i live with a few active agents on the other side in my faction, i went from L2 to L4 in a matter of 24 hours, ((provided i spent 2 to 3 hours claiming neutral portals and linking, then break for several hours then went back out, and don't forget 8 hours of sleeping))
now the north side of my small town is covered in green fields ranging from one layer to several layers, in a few points its so layered you can barly see the portals inside the field and i am half way done with L4 because of all that. Also I'm not attacking the enemy portals that are still standing simply because i get 100 AP each time I hack them and because they are higher lvl i get rezy's that i need, one time at an enemy portal i got 4 LVL 4 Rezys... so i find it all wrong, I did enjoy the pictures though and the tips would be nice if i had searched when i was lvl 1... i guess whatever way you find best to play is how you should stick to it
